Nutrition Initiative
As part of a continual drive to improve the health and wellbeing of our service users and staff, we have recently commissioned a Nutrition Consultant to look at all aspects of the menus at Bangeston Hall.
An audit of staff knowledge identified a number of areas for improvement resulting in a training and development package that:
- Analysed existing menus used in Bangeston Hall and established guidelines to improve the nutritional value of meals served
- Established a set standard of knowledge for all Bangeston Hall staff
- Launched the “Little Changes” Scheme involving Bangeston Hall service users which encouraged them to choose small but significant changes to their diet, exercise and dental care
- Produced an audit process to monitor the application of Little Changes project
- Introduced a skills development programme in practical food preparation for staff
Following the project the staff feedback was overwhelmingly positive e.g.
- “I just can’t thank you enough. From your training I can really understand now what I have to do to improve the diet of the service users”
- “The training will help me to implement the principles of nutrition into my personal diet and the diet of my service users”
- “I now know how to create a menu which is healthy yet still contains ‘treats’”
- “It gave me practical tips and advice on how to improve the health and wellbeing of the service users”
- “The staff are talking about diets and food now which is certainly an improvement”
