3. Communications Officer
Job Purpose
The post holder will introduce and support new communication systems and communication teaching programmes, appropriate for adults with an ASD. He/she will also support and develop existing systems and programmes, and train and mentor staff in good communication practice. The post holder will liaise with the Health Authorities SLT and other professionals and work under the supervision of the PRC Head of Day Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To keep abreast of developments in the field of ASD and Communication.
- To take the lead in creating a ‘total communication’ environment at PRC
- To introduce and support new communication systems and communication teaching programmes, appropriate for adults with an ASD
- To support and develop existing communication systems and communication teaching programmes, appropriate for adults with an ASD.
- To co-ordinate an initial communication assessment of each new service user
- To produce annual and quarterly communication targets for each service user
- To teach service users on a one-to-one basis and in occasional small group settings.
- To provide service users with practice work in between communication sessions
- To prepare resources required to implement and support specific teaching programmes and communication systems
- To monitor and record each service users progress
- To provide annual and quarterly reports for each service user
- To deliver staff training in communication and communication systems
- To support staff in the delivery of good communication practice
- To carry out other duties as requested by the Head of Day Services
